General Application for Turkish Citizenship

The right to apply for Turkish citizenship through the general route is available to foreigners who have lived in Turkiye for an extended period. The following conditions must be met to apply:

  • Continuous residence in Turkiye for at least 5 years,

  • Police Clearance Certificate

  • Proof of good moral character (clean criminal record),
  • Intention to live in Turkiye permanently and proof of residence,
  • Adequate proficiency in the Turkish language,
  • Sufficient income or financial means to support oneself and any dependents.

Those who meet these criteria can apply to the Directorate General of Population and Citizenship Affairs for Turkish citizenship.
